Coiba National Park

Coiba National Park, considered one of the largest marine national parks in the world is located in the southern part of the province of Veraguas and consists of more than 2.701 square kilometers, including the Coiba Island and 38 smaller islands. 
This beautiful paradise with tropical forests and unique ecosystems in the world, also contains the second largest coral reef in the Pacific Ocean, reasons that make it one of the main routes of ecological tourism in Panama. The park was created in 1991,and is considered one of the natural jewels of Panama for its size and wealth of the islands, the surrounding sea water, thus protecting marine ecosystems and coastal island.

The natural wealth of the marine park, since its waters are traditionally known for its abundant fisheries, home to species like the Whale Shark, the Tiger Shark
 MantaRay, or Coriphaena Hippurus Dorado and Yellow fin Tuna. Coiba seas are also home to four species of cetaceans: the great humpback whale, orca, the tropical spotted dolphin and bottle nose dolphin. But how can you do to visit this beautiful tourist park?can do so from Panama City by air to the city of Santiago, capital of the province of Veraguas, in 20 minutes or 5 hours by road. Once there take the road leading to Puerto Mutis, to travel by sea to the island, this can be done on a fast boat with good weather, the trip can take about 2 hours, 6 hours otherwise. In the northeastern part of the island of Coiba, is the biological station where they give accommodation

bookingprior to the ANAM, for up to 8 people, 3 days stay. There are also hotels and restaurants in Santiago, a city that has a growing commercial sector. The biological station has two viewpoints, Cerro Santa Cruz and Cerro Torre trail and ocean, theestuary of Boca Grande, which promotes the practice of beach activities, diving and fishing along all their costs.



Diving in Coiba
Are common puntiblancos encounters with sharks, skates, rays and sea eagles anddiving with large schools of surgeon fishes, butterfly, angel, barracudas, hairdressers,mackerel, and tuna shoots. Besides the possibility of sightings of humpback whales,orcas, pilot whales, dolphins, hammerhead sharks, bull sharks and whale sharks.




The area near the island of Coiba is a great place for sport fishing and scuba diving,for the clarity of its waters and marine biodiversity and so far have identified 69 species of marine fish, 12 echinoderms, 45 molluscs and 13 crustaceans.


The upwelling caused by wind from the north and the influence of Pacific currentsbrings with it many nutrients and large schools of pelagic fish migration, such as blankets, striped giant pelagics, tunas, amber jacks, including Orca whales and more.

Humpback whales are visiting the area from July to October.
